Surface Preparation
CT-300 SLF can be applied over epoxy primers and zinc rich epoxy primers, steel blasted to Swedish Standard Sa2½ or concrete surfaces properly prepared.
For application directly over steel – all surfaces must be free of oil, grease and moisture before blasting to near white metal equivalent to Sa2½ for immersion service, or commercial blast equivalent to Swedish Standard Sa 2 for non-immersion service. The steel profile after blasting should be 40 to 60 mic. in depth and be of a jagged nature as opposed to a peen pattern. Surfaces must be free of grit dust.
For application over masonry – remove all forms of release agents and laitance by blasting or by acid etch.
Mixing and Thinning
CT-300 SLF is supplied in two components of its original mixing ratio. The entire contents of each component must be mixed together, preferably with a power mixer. After power mixing slowly for 5 minutes, allow an additional 15 minutes induction time before application. The pot life of the mixture is 5–7 hours at 25°C. Higher temperatures will reduce the pot life; lower temperatures will extend the pot life. Thinning is not normally required or desired; however, at lower temperatures, small amounts (not to exceed 15%) of only T-10 Thinner can be added depending on local VOC and air quality regulations.
Application
CT-300 SLF can be applied by airless spray method. Application and curing temperature should be above 10°C. Best results are obtained at temperatures 15–25°C.
- Graco Bulldog minimum 35/1 ratio pump is recommended.
- Tip sizes from .021″ to .031″ will provide a good spray pattern.
- For optimum results, fluid hoses should be 3/8″ ID or larger and a maximum length of 15 m. For longer hoses, hoses with higher ID should be selected, as long and low ID hoses will cause pressure drop at the tips and create poor spray patterns. An increase in pump pressure might be needed.
CT-300 SLF may also be applied by a brush or roller. Care should be taken that proper and uniform film thicknesses are obtained. For touch-up work, CT-300 SLF can be applied by brush or roller. Good ventilation should be provided to all portions of an enclosed area.
Precautions
Refer to material safety data sheet of the product. Additional safety information is available upon request. Minimum safety precautions in dealing with the paints are;
- Take precaution to avoid skin and eye contact (i.e. gloves, goggles, face mask, barrier creams, etc.)
- Provide adequate ventilation
- If the product comes in contact with the skin, wash thoroughly with lukewarm water and soap or suitable industrial cleaner. If the eyes are contaminated flush with water (minimum 10 minutes) and obtain medical attention at once.
- Since these products contain flammable materials, keep away from sparks and open flames. No smoking should be permitted in the area.
- Observe all precautionary notices on containers.
