Navipox 2300 Nova Novalac Epoxy Intermediate Coating
FEATURES
- Excellent water immersion resistance — Intermediate coating, thixotropic. Where protection of steel structures is more important than aesthetic appearance, can be used as a top coat.
- Excellent chemical resistance — Alkaline liquids, weak acids, crude oil, salt and fresh water.
- Durable hi-build film properties (150–300 mic) — Abrasion resistant, cures down to -5°C, trowel applicable with glass mat.
- Excellent package stability — Good cure response. Standard Red Brown, Buff and Black colours.
RECOMMENDED USES
Navipox 2300 Nova is a special two-component, solvent-free, gray-coloured coating based on novolac (phenolic) epoxy, cured with modified phenolic polyamine hardener. Nova 2300 is 100% solid with excellent adhesion over properly primed substrates. Cured film creates high mechanical resistance along with resistance against water, many chemicals and various solvents. Nova 2300 can be cured at low temperatures.
- Ships, barges, docks, offshore structures
- Steel structures, flumes, machinery
- Spill containment pools of tanks (in case of accidental release of chemicals)
Chemical Resistance
- Sewage and waste plants
- Fertilizer plants
- Refineries and factories in industrial zones
Chemical Resistance
- Inner surface of crude oil tanks and pipes

Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be dry, clean, free of oil, grease, form release agents, curing compounds, laitance and other foreign matter, and be structurally sound. Remove all loose paint, mortar spatter, mill scale and rust. New surfaces: abrasive blast to near-white metal in accordance with SSPC-SP10 or ISO 8501-1:2007 Sa2.5. Blast profile on steel should be at least 50 microns in depth and of a sharp, jagged nature as opposed to a peen pattern. Remove all dust, debris and blasting medium. Previously painted surfaces: Navipox 2300 Nova is normally not recommended for application to existing coatings. Consult Navimare-PX Technical representative.
Priming, Mixing, Thinning
Material is supplied in two containers as a unit. Always mix a complete unit in the proportions supplied. Once the unit has been mixed it must be used within the working pot life specified. (1) Agitate Base (Part A) with a power agitator. (2) Combine entire contents of Curing Agent (Part B) with Base (Part A) and mix thoroughly with power agitator.
Application
Navipox 2300 Nova can be applied by airless spray equipment. Where airless spray equipment is used: Graco 30/1 Bulldog or 35/1 Senator or larger pump is recommended. Recommended tip size is 0.021″–0.027″, providing a good spray pattern. Liquid pressure on tip is about 180–250 Kg/cm². For optimum results, fluid hoses should be 3/8″ ID or larger with a maximum length of 15 m, except for the short whip end before the gun. Longer hose length or cold temperatures may require an increase in pump ratio and/or thinning. Navipox 2300 Nova may also be applied by brush or roller. Care should be taken that proper and uniform thicknesses are obtained. Tank coating system: 2 full coats of 200 mic. DFT per coat plus 2 stripe coats over sharp edges, cut-outs and welds. Use contrasting colours for each coat and stripe coat.
Ventilation: It is very important for the safety of the applicator and the proper performance of the Navipox 2300 Nova coating that good ventilation be provided to all portions of the enclosed area. It is equally important to bring into the enclosed area dry, fresh air to remove all solvent vapours. Since all solvent vapours are heavier than air, ventilation ducts should reach to the lowest portion of the enclosed areas as well as into any structural pockets. Ventilation should be provided throughout the cure period to ensure all the solvents are removed from the coating.
Precaution
Refer to material safety data sheet of the product. Additional safety information is available upon request. Minimum safety precautions in dealing with the paints are;
- Take precaution to avoid skin and eye contact (i.e. gloves, goggles, face mask, barrier creams, etc.)
- Provide adequate ventilation.
- If the product comes in contact with the skin, wash thoroughly with lukewarm water and soap or suitable industrial cleaner. If the eyes are contaminated flush with water (minimum 10 minutes) and obtain medical attention at once.
- Since these products contain flammable materials, keep away from sparks and open flames. No smoking should be permitted in the area.
- Observe all precautionary notices on containers.
Xn: Harmful for human health. F: Flammable. Warning signs: R11, R20/21/22, R36/38. Safety warnings: S2, S3/7/9, S16, S20/21, S24/25, S38.
