RECOMMENDED USES
Navipox SF90 meets the BS 6920 Part 1 & 2 criteria. It is designed for application on pipelines and water tank interiors to provide corrosion resistance against fresh and salt water. Navipox SF90 has good chemical resistance, water resistance and mechanical durability. It has good adhesion on properly prepared carbon steel, concrete and composite substrates. After application, the cured coating of Navipox SF90 has high durability against corrosion, abrasion, friction of mineral oils and various chemical materials, as well as continuous immersion in sea water and fresh water conditions.
- Ships, barges, docks, offshore structures
- Pipelines, concrete structures, flumes
- Food stuff storage facilities
- Sewage and waste plants
- City water transportation pipeline systems
- Refineries
- Inner surface of potable water pipes

Surface Preparation
All surfaces to be coated should be clean, dry and free from contamination. Prior to paint application all surfaces should be assessed and treated in accordance with ISO 8504:2000. Where necessary, remove weld splatter and smooth weld seams and sharp edges. Oil or grease should be removed in accordance with SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning. This product must only be applied to surfaces prepared by abrasive blast cleaning to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007) or SSPC SP10. Steel profile after blasting should be 75–100 microns in depth and be of jagged, sharp, angular nature as opposed to a peen pattern. Navipox SF90 must be applied before oxidation of the steel occurs. If oxidation does occur the entire oxidised area should be re-blasted to the standard specified above.
Priming, Mixing, Thinning
Material is supplied in two containers as a unit. Always mix a complete unit in the proportions supplied. Once the unit has been mixed it must be used within the working pot life specified. (1) Agitate Base (Part A) with a power agitator. (2) Combine entire contents of Curing Agent (Part B) with Base (Part A) and mix thoroughly with power agitator. At temperatures below 21°C it is recommended that Navipox SF90 is allowed a 5-minute induction period after mixing, prior to commencing application.
Application
Navipox SF90 can be applied by airless spray methods; however, the preferred method of application is with a heavy-duty plural-feed airless spray with heated tanks and separate feeding hoses. For airless application, a 45:1 Graco Bulldog or larger is recommended. Tip sizes from 0.023″ to 0.029″ and total output fluid pressure at spray tip not less than 211 kg/cm² (3000 p.s.i.) will provide a good spray pattern. For optimum results, fluid hoses should be 3/8″ ID or larger with a maximum length of 15 m. Longer hose length or cold temperatures may require an increase in pump ratio and/or thinning. Navipox SF90 may also be applied by brush or roller. Care should be taken that proper and uniform film thicknesses are obtained. Thinning is not recommended.
After application, Navipox SF90 is recommended to cure 7 days at 25°C to help prevent unwanted odour and flavour from the transported potable water. It must be taken into account that there can be a 10–15% thickness difference between the wet film and dry film thickness. It is very important for the safety of the applicator and the proper performance of the Navipox SF90 coating that good ventilation be provided to all portions of the enclosed area. It is equally important to bring dry, fresh air into the enclosed area to remove all solvent vapours. Since all solvent vapours are heavier than air, ventilation ducts should reach to the lowest portion of the enclosed areas as well as into any structural pockets. Ventilation should be provided throughout the cure period to ensure all solvents are removed from the coating. For potable water tanks, it is essential that full ventilation be maintained for seven days.
Precaution
Refer to material safety data sheet of the product. Additional safety information is available upon request. Minimum safety precautions in dealing with the paints are;
- Take precaution to avoid skin and eye contact (i.e. gloves, goggles, face mask, barrier creams, etc.)
- Provide adequate ventilation.
- If the product comes in contact with the skin, wash thoroughly with lukewarm water and soap or suitable industrial cleaner. If the eyes are contaminated flush with water (minimum 10 minutes) and obtain medical attention at once.
- Since these products contain flammable materials, keep away from sparks and open flames. No smoking should be permitted in the area.
- Observe all precautionary notices on containers.
